The primary purpose of the prayerhotline is not to write a theological discourse about the theory of prayer but to encourage and motivate all people around the globe to pray because "there are wonders in prayer because there are wonders" in the prayer answering God.While the Help From Above Prayerhotline believes there are wonders to experiece when you pray, we want to make it clear that we believe "prayer has no talismanic influence. It is no mere fetish It has no so- called powers of magic. It is simply making known our requests to God for things agreeable to his will in the name of Christ....and yielding our requests to a father who knows all things, who has control of all things, and who is able to do all things".(The Complete Works of E.M. Bounds, p207)
THE BIBLE TERM OF PRAYER:
One of the ways to encourage people to pray is to furnish them briefly with what the Bible terminology of prayer is all about. It is about calling on the Lord for help.
1) CALLING ON THE LORD IN TIMES OF TROUBLE (Psalm 46)
It means calling upon God for both our temporal and spiritual needs.
Psalm 50:15 "Call upon me in the day of trouble, and l will deliver thee"
Jeremiah 33:3 " Call upon me and l will answer thee and show thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not"
Isaiah 58:9 "Then shalt thou call and the Lord will answer, thou shall cry and He shalt say, Here I am.
Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:"
From the above Biblical perspective of prayer, prayer is the voices of men, women and children in trouble crying unto their creator for help.
2)PRAYER ALSO IS A DESIRE TO HAVE CONTACT WITH GOD
When one is not in trouble, one still will have a desire for contact with God our creator.
Prayer then is " but the verbal expression of the heart of perfect confidence in the infinite wisdom of God"
James 1:5 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upraideth not, and it shall be given him"
There are many definitions that can be given about prayer but that is not the primary aim of this program, the above bible concept of prayer is enough to excite us to intensify our communication with our Father in Heaven who delights to hear us pray. Our readers should know that when we pray, we are not asking something that God has not promised. His promises encourage and admonish all to come to Him in prayer.
Without constant prayer, God's promises will do us no good. Someone has said that God's "promise is like giant corpses without life, only for decay and dust unless men and women appropriate and vitalize these promises by earnest and prevailing prayer"
It is our earnest prayer that all who are preparing to be heirs of God's Kingdom will begin here to cultivate the habit of prayer for strenght and courage to be able to face the crisis of this generation.
